CRDS offers a number of distance course options for varying student
needs. From completing a Bachelor degree to fulfilling requirements
for a professional accreditation or continuing education credits;
CRDS distance courses are designed to be flexible and valuable.
CORE 301.01 - Health Foundations: Developmental
Disabling Conditions
Note: Requires Anatomy and Physiology co-requisite or prerequisite.
Content: This course looks at
the relationship between anatomy and physiology in dealing with
disabling conditions during childhood. Community Rehabilitation
provides the context of discussions on physiological and anatomical
systems of the human body.
Delivery: Case studies through Internet
Forum and On-line chat methods, along with self-directed study
through worksheets and bibliography.
CORE 301.02 - Health Foundations: Adult Onset
Disabling Conditions
Note: Requires Anatomy and Physiology co-requisite or prerequisite.
Content: This course once again looks
at the relationship between anatomy and physiology, however this
time focusing on adult onset disabling conditions. Community Rehabilitation
provides the context of discussions on physiology and anatomy.
Delivery: Online worksheets and case
studies, and online forums and chat sessions.
CORE 301.03 - Health Foundations: Disabling Conditions
Associated with Aging
Note: Requires Anatomy and Physiology co-requisite or prerequisite.
Content: The continued examination of
the relationship between anatomy and physiology in dealing with
disabling conditions associated with aging. Community Rehabilitation
provides the context of discussions on physiological and anatomical
systems of the human body and an exploration of current research
in the area.
Delivery: Online worksheets and case
study presentations, along with participation in seminar chat
sessions.
CORE 305.01 - History of Service Systems for
Persons with Disability in Community
Content: Life span services for persons
with disabilities are the focus of this course, looking at the
current and historical contextual environments. Goals and policies
that facilitate inclusion are also analyzed.
Delivery: Students focus on a service
sector for assignments and research papers, in addition to an
observations report in an inclusion setting.
CORE 307.02 - Assessment Approaches in Community
Rehabilitation
Content: This course is a multimedia
distance course for practicing professionals, with a specific
focus on assessment theory and practice. Community Rehabilitation
provides an historical context for assessment and practical contemporary
approaches and tools utilized by rehabilitation practitioners.
Delivery: Interact with our NEW action
assessment navigator featuring video demonstrating contemporary
assessment. Learn about third-party referrals and actual Canadian
sites.
CORE 307.03 - Intervention Models and Strategies
in Community Rehabilitation
Content: Another multi-media distance
course that presents the current approaches and strategies to
support people with disabling conditions; enabling them to be
contributing members of communities. Theory and funding models
along with specific approaches and strategies form the basis of
this course.
Delivery: View videos of our graduates
as they engage in fulfilling careers ranging from education coordinators
to career planners. Use these video demonstrations to launch exploration
of grounding philosophy and theory, and practical strategies in
accomplishing day-to-day work.
CORE 307.04 - Individualized Approaches to Planning
in Community Rehabilitation
Content: A multimedia distance course
that presents approaches to helping people with disabling conditions
to determine their life path and the supports available to meet
those goals. Theory and graphically illustrated demonstrations
to planning are presented.
Delivery: CD-ROM presentation demonstrating
graphically illustrated examples of actual Person-Centered Planning
session. Educational IPP's. Career-Transition Plans.
CORE 307.05 - Ethics and Issues for Canadian
Rehabilitation Professionals
Content: A multimedia distance course
addressing ethical development and the application of a Canadian
code of professional ethics in community rehabilitation practice.
Delivery: A 20-hour quarter course delivered
through both synchronous and asynchronous distance education.
Class participation is integral to the learning process. Class
discussions will be facilitated using vClass (synchronous) as
well as bulletin board discussion on blackboard (asynchronous).
CORE 573 - Disability and the Law
Content: Canadian legal principles and
practices are examined as they relate to and affect Community
Rehabilitation. The course is an internet/on-campus course that
uses briefs based on case law.
Delivery: An online test and assignments
are supplemented by an interactive CD-ROM.
CORE 593.07 - Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Related
Disability Issues
Content: A newly offered course that
has been developed in response to requests from Community Rehabilitation
Professionals. The course examines Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and
looks at the supports for people with FAS. Special attention is
paid to helping those with FAS manage and thrive in an adult world.
Delivery: Ten modules covering all areas
of FAS are completed by self-study and through a series of assignments.
