The Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies unit
offers opportunities for professionals interested in contributing
to the development of community options in ways that reflect
the political and social disadvantage associated with disabling
conditions, chronic health and mental health concerns. This
dual perspective on professional practice and social-political
issues creates bridges and partnerships for a new vision
of communities and work places that are supportive of all.
Some of the fields of practice include return to work, case
management, community support and services, policy development
and systems change, or specialized community services for
persons with physical disabilities, mental health concerns,
developmental disabilities or acquired brain injury.
We offer a program that celebrates the diverse foundations
and disciplines of community service and disability, emerging
professional specializations and consumer voice and expertise.
Degrees have been developed in conjunction with professionals
and students to ensure that programs recognize the talent
and experience of those who work in this field, their needs
as working professionals with full personal and community
lives and, above all, their need for knowledge and challenge.
This is a degree for those who can commit time regularly
to their studies, who are self starters but who are willing
to support and be supported by colleagues, who are willing
to challenge their beliefs and expectations as they struggle
with new ideas.
