I am a physician by training. I began my career as a pediatrician in Russia, working in a hospital for children with tuberculosis. I continued to practice medicine in Israel where I worked in primary care and in psychiatry. I became affiliated with the Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies Program (CRDS) at the U of C since 1996. For ten years I was involved in international projects focused on teaching and program development in the area of community mental health, as a Project Coordinator with the Canada-Russia Disability Program, which is implemented in collaboration between the CRDS and the Moscow Research Institute of Psychiatry. My other areas of practice included gerontological social work, counselling, and community development. I hold a PhD degree from the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program, University of Calgary.
I am used to interdisciplinary practice and teaching settings. My research interests include resilience and consequences of psychic trauma in older adults, multidimensional understanding of mental health and wellbeing in later life, cross-cultural and cross-language knowledge exchange, qualitative methods in the interdisciplinary research.
